ligea® – a spin-off from kymo® Germany.

We bring textile contract flooring to a new level as the first proptech startup in the carpet industry. By combining our field of expertise “flooring” and the concept of “proptech” companies, we are coining a new genre: FLOORTECH. Our goal is to transform the flooring industry through technology.

…but where does our startup actually come from?

Back in 2016 the German design label kymo® decided to take courage and step into the contract business of the carpet industry. Standing for exclusive Floorwear® and stunning carpet design since 2005, kymo® pulled off huge projects in the past 5 years and provided carpets for some of the most exclusive hotels, retail stores, offices and private residences in the world. This all happened under kymo®’s design service THE ATELIER. A business unit where we enabled architects and interior designers to turn their individual vision for the floor into reality.

kymo®’s THE ATELIER was a place where our in-house designers worked closely with the creatives and planners of the architectural projects throughout the entire project duration. Inspiration was gathered, colour schemes worked out, carpet designs created. Thousands of square meters of carpet in the most exhilarating designs were produced and implemented in stunning architectural projects all over the world such as the Helsinki Central Library Oodi, The Ritz-Carlton Berlin, Park Plaza London Park Royal, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and many more.

In 2020, as part of the kymo® team, we made the decision to spin off the project business. We knew we were in the position to give our customers real added value by not only making project handling much more transparent, but also by using technology and digitalization to completely change the way we do business. We felt that in order to realize our vision of offering faster, more digital, easier provisioning of custom designed carpets for large-scale projects, it was time to detach the project business from kymo®.

However, this doesn’t take anything away from kymo®’s centerpiece of creating mesmerizing carpet designs, but only separates the nature of the projects. THE ATELIER remains a part of kymo® but it refocuses on what it actually and originally is: an artist’s studio where unique artworks are created. Lifeblood and creativity, the personal exchange about design and creation, the close working relationship between kymo®’s in-house designer and the creative artists who want to bring their art to the floor in form of a carpet. THE ATELIER will once again be a physical space to enter and create single unique pieces.

ligea® is and will remain as well an expert in custom design carpets, but our expertise lies in realizing these individual designs for large-scale projects and bringing them to life in carpet qualities appropriate for objects. Our proficiency has grown within kymo® but now we are at the point to take the step into independence. So a few months after the decision to spin-off, here we are. kymo®’s former project business is now LIGEA®. With her own identity and values. With fresh, flexible approaches backed by years of experience in the business. ligea® is ready to reshape the contract business of the traditional carpet industry.

Our first step in this direction is our ligea® online assistant which makes it easy to gather carpet design inspiration, request design support from our experienced designers, order quality or custom design samples, or receive an instant quote on pre-selected qualities that are automatically recommended based on the project information provided.

But this first step towards digitizing the industry is just a start and there are many more plans on our slate. In the future, ligea® will be the platform that brings together all participants in the market.

We are not just another supplier of carpets. ligea® stands for the vision to take the project business in the flooring sector to the next level.
