When it comes to furnishing a new hotel or to finding a fresh look for a renovation, choosing the right carpet for your guest rooms can be a bit of a challenge.

While it is mostly clear what type of furniture you need per suite, double or single room, you might want to know how to choose the right carpet as well. The carpet often determines the overall atmosphere of a room. Not only does it impact the first impression of a hotel; it also has a direct influence on the well-being of the guests.
Here are our expert tips on how to make the perfect flooring choice in terms of design aspects. If you’re more interested in the planning and timing aspects, part two of this blog article will help you out. You can find it here.

1 – Find the right layout and size for hotel carpets

First of all you should decide where you want to have carpets in your guest rooms. This mainly depends on the intended function. Do you want rugs to group different areas of furniture into functional spaces? Or is the guest room supposed to be equipped with a Wall-to-Wall carpet? Does the carpet need to meet specific requirements, e.g. suitability for wet spaces or a strong capacity to absorb sound?

If you go for area rugs it is valuable to not only know the measurements of your rooms but of all bigger furniture as well. Avoid common mistakes like choosing the rugs too small, so they disappear under the bed or lack of space to move chairs on a rug without slipping their legs over its edges.
For Wall-to-Wall carpets, integrate enough margin to cover every angle of the room when installing it, including doorways etc.

2 – Select the right colour for guest room carpets

Colour is a strong medium to transport feelings in your interior design. Whether you want to keep your carpets the same shade as your furniture and wall or use them as vibrant eye catchers – with a custom design you can achieve a strong visual statement.

To find the perfect carpet colour for your guest rooms, play with mood boards, different combinations and use our ligea® online assistant to bundle all the patterns and styles that inspire you. Integrate for example the company colours of the hotel chain into your interior design by getting custom dyed yarn for your contract carpets in line with Pantone, RAL or other colour systems.

3 – Choose the right material and manufacturing technique

One of the most important points is to choose the carpet materials wisely. While you might already have a specific look in mind, there are many different ways to achieve it. And not all materials are suitable for all areas of a hotel. While you definitely want to have more durable carpets in your corridors, entrance and all other high traffic areas, in your guest rooms you can usually have more creative freedom.

Moreover, the guests might enjoy a more personal atmosphere supported by heavier and more luxurious materials in their rooms than in shared spaces. To underline the exclusivity of higher priced rooms such as president suites, while keeping a recognizable look throughout the entire hotel, you could for example choose the same design, but implement it in different qualities. Order samples to get a hands-on impression of the different possibilities.

There is a wide variety of materials and mixes available to combine haptic and visual advantages of different materials. Depending on the manufacturing technique, one and the same material can be worked into more or less resilient carpet structures. Make sure to consult an expert to get the best match for your ideas and project requirements.
